Samuel Adams, the world’s most decorated beer, has defined the craft beer category in the United States and is the best-selling American craft beer.
The story of Samuel Adams is one of the most romantic out there. Jim Koch, who founded the brewery, discovered a long lost recipe book containing 19th-century beer recipes in his father’s attic. The book belonged to his great, great grandfather. In 1984, curious and enthusiastic, he began brewing homemade beer out of his Boston kitchen, using the old recipes. He offered the beer to local Boston, to instant success and soaring demand.
More than 30 years later, Samuel Adams is still brewed in a traditional, slow way, and seasoned with two types of noble Bavarian hops. Jim Koch, the founder, still hand picks the hops each fall.
Samuel Adams’ classic lager beer, Samuel Adams Boston Lager, contains 4.7% alcohol, and five times more hops than standard lagers, which gives it a distinctive floral aroma, high, yet pleasant bitterness and sweet malt notes.
