The beverage was created by Charles Leiper Grigg, who launched a carbonated beverage business in St. Louis, Missouri in 1920. He invented the formula for his now famous lemon-lime beverage, which was then called “Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime soda,” in 1929.
