Ashkelon Arak

Ashkelon Arak is everything you ever wished for in an authentic arak. It has distinct yet pleasant anise aromas and a robust flavor, and it goes very smoothly down the throats of Israeli arak lovers.

It’s only natural that Mediterranean port city of Ashkelon, with its thousand-year history, should have an arak brand dedicated in its name. After all, arak originated in the Mediterranean basin, each regional country developing its version of the familiar anise-flavored spirit.

Ashkelon Arak is made from natural ingredients and is distilled according to a traditional recipe since 1925.

The origin of the word ‘arak’ is Arabic for… sweat. This has nothing to do with the taste of the spirit. It is based on the unique distillation method of arak, which is done by evaporation and collecting the of the alcoholic drippings. Arak is made from grape must which are first fermented and later distilled and flavored with star anise or anise seeds, giving it its distinct flavor.

The lion on Ashkelon Arak’s label, and the milky white color the spirit assumes once it is combined with water (popularly known as lion’s milk), are the reason this arak is nicknamed “Arak of Lions.”

Ashkelon Arak’s new bottle design is meant to express the quality of the spirit, the perfectionism with which it is made, and the long tradition on which it is based.
